What is BALLS?
BALLS is The Tripoli Rocketry Association's National Experimental Launch. It is intended as a venue for experimental rockets of all sizes to be launched with waivers to 491,000 feet and higher.
The Black Rock Desert is a remote dry lake bed, a playa, north east of Reno. There are few services in the area and only one small town that is 20 miles from the launch site. If you are expecting 5 star hotels, or even Motel 6, you are at the wrong place.
However it is the best location in the USA to launch rockets. Hundreds of square miles of recovery and the highest possible waiver.
All who attend are charged the range fee. It us costs the same for a person to be there if they are launching a rocket or not.
